Fur Storage FAQ
Q. Why should I store my furs?. I have air-conditioning.
A. Furs need more than just a cool place to spend the summer.
Humidity, temperature fluctuations and moths are just a few of the problems that can
shorten your fur's life.
Q. What happens to my coats once they're in storage.
A. Each coat is inspected by a qualified furrier for any minute
flaws. Loose hooks, open linings, matted hair and other small repairs are provided free of
charge and anything more serious will be brought to your attention in an estimate
presented to you without obligation.
Q. What about insurance?
A. Your
furs are fully insured from pick-up to delivery. Should you require additional insurance
year-round, we make a private policy available at resonable rates.
Q.
How much does storage cost.
A.The
charge for storage is directly related to the value you place on your coats left with us.
Each value range has it's own charge. Please call us at 1-877-923-3877 for an exact
figure for your coat.
Q. What
about cleaning my furs, leathers and sheepskins?
A.
Fur has unique cleaning needs. The process for fur-cleaning differs fundamentally from
that of leather, suede, shearling, or fabric.
Furs are tumbled in a solution of crushed shells impregnated with cleaning fluid to loosen
any dirt. After careful drumming and extraction, the fur is then "Glazed" on a
metal drum lathe to straighten the hair. Several other steps are followed in a time
consuming process until your fur emerges fresh and beautiful.
Leather is cleaned in a manner similar to
dry-cleaning, or can be done at home using one of a number of leather cleaners commonly
available. Expect a certain amount of color change after cleaning. It is better to protect
your leathers with a product such as ITA Protector spray and do a little maintenance
yourself than to rely on the cleaning process.
Shearlings and sheepskins need their own unique type of
professional care.
