Caring For Your Sheepskins. A Sheepskin or shearling coat in lightweight lamb will give years of service with just a few precautions. Though gains have been made in the cleaning of sheepskins and shearling over the years, care should be taken when sending your garment in for cleaning. Clean it only with someone with years of experience dealing directly with sheepskin and shearling. If your shearling gets wet, hang it up, away from anything else, and let it dry completely. (do not towel dry). If your shearling gets a small stain, carefully try rubbing the area gently with an emery board. Use a protective spray, such as "ITA Protector" brand twice a year to guard against the weather and everyday mishaps. "ITA Protector" spray also works on shoes, purses, or any leather or suede product.
